In the midst of New York Fashion Week, in addition to dreaming about clothes, I am intrigued by makeup. I am not a huge makeup wearer, but I love to see my makeup artist friends in action – transforming looks and faces and sometimes even lives. My curiosity got the better of me, I had to ask them a few questions. Read below, and take a look at Alchimie Forever’s Instagram this week – a few of the took our account over for some “behind the scenes” delight.
Neil Scibelli, Celebrity and fashion makeup artist
AP: Who is (are) your makeup style icon(s)? NS: Kevyn Aucoin.
AP: What makeup item(s) should a woman never walk out of the house not wearing? NS: Mascara and a color item (lip or cheek).
AP: Favorite red for a bright red lip? NS: Simone from Jouer – it is a bright red that is wearable by so many different people.
AP: What is your best backstage makeup tip? NS: The dewy look is a huge backstage runway trend right now that works really well for every day. Use a tinted moisturizer that has luminizing properties or a cream highlighter to replicate the look at home.
Alison Raffaele, Professional makeup artist
AP: Who is (are) your makeup style icon(s)? AR: Way Bandy, Bobbi Brown, Sandy Linter.
Three artists because their work is timeless. They express the idea that the best makeup is to look your best, and not worry about trends.
AP: What makeup item(s) should a woman never walk out of the house not wearing? AR: Concealer, blotting tissue, lipstick.
AP: Favorite red for a bright red lip? AR: Armani 400 .
AP: What are the favorite Alchimie Forever products for your kit? AR: I would most use:
- Royal Cream Moisturizer
- Gentle Refining Scrub
- Dry Skin Balm
- Kantic Calming Cream
- Rejuvenating Eye Balm
AP: What is your best backstage makeup tip? AR: Don’t settle for product that doesn’t really works for you – for example if your mascara runs, toss it. Also, take the time to do it right.
Carl Ray , Makeup artist to Michelle Obama, Artist at One80 Salon
AP: Who is (are) your makeup style icon(s)? CR: Pat McGrath & Kevyn Aucoin.
AP: What makeup item(s) should a woman never walk out of the house not wearing? CR: Mascara, blush/bronzer, gloss and of course sunscreen.
AP: Favorite red for a bright red lip? CR:These red look best on different skin tones from light to dark:
- Ruby Woo by MAC
- Cherry Lush by Tom Ford
- Red Carpet Matte by Bobbi Brown
- Heat Wave Semi Matte by NARS
AP: What is your best backstage makeup tip? CR: I love a bright and luminous complexion. The look is beautiful and clean. Exfoliating and moisturizer will help prep skin so you can achieve a healthy glow and not cover up your skin with too much makeup.
Deanna Melluso, Celebrity makeup artist
AP: Who is (are) your makeup style icon(s)? DM: My favorite style icon is Cher in the 80’s. For me, the pinnacle of her style was when she played in Witches of Eastwick and Moonstruck.
AP: What makeup item(s) should a woman never walk out of the house not wearing? DM: I tell my clients they should never leave home without a lipstick, blotting papers and pressed translucent powder.
AP: Favorite red for a bright red lip? DM: Dragon Girl by Nars. It’s matte and stays put for hours. Also, the color is highly pigmented.
AP: What is your best backstage makeup tip? DM: Use a hydrating mask. I love using these masks when the models are moving from show to show and the skin gets irritated. You can do this right before you go out… My favorite ones are Alchimie Forever Kantic brightening moisture mask and Sisley Express flower gel. Leave the masks on your skin for 5-10 minutes and rinse off with a damp cloth. You will be glowing for your night ahead.
Ana Marie Rizzieri, Celebrity makeup artist
AP: Who is (are) your makeup style icon(s)? AMR: My favorite is Kate Moss. I always love her freckly skin!
AP: What makeup item(s) should a woman never walk out of the house not wearing? AMR: I would never leave the house without mascara. Better than Sex by Too Faced is my new favorite.
AP: Favorite red for a bright red lip? AMR: The best red is Nars Red Lizard. Stays on without drying my lips. And such a classic color.
AP: What is your best backstage makeup tip? AMR: It’s all about contouring; and skip the blush!
