This is 38…

Today is my 38th birthday. I am inching closer to the big 40, and it feels great.

I don’t think I look my age (except perhaps for my knees; who ever has told you that knees show – and feel – your age…), and I still get carded once in a while when I order champagne. Most importantly, I like myself and the person I have worked so hard to become, and am still becoming. I feel more confident than I did 5 years ago (although lack of confidence has never really been a problem of mine). I feel stronger, both mentally and physically. I am working smarter, not necessarily harder. I am happier than ever.

Google says that “women are most content at 38 when they are fit and healthy and have good friends.” (Although I have to admit Google is inconsistent and also reports this of ages 33, 34, 35, and older years – I didn’t find anything reporting women being most content in their 20s). I am fit, healthy, and I have great friends. I have a husband who is my soulmate. I have a beauty business that is growing.

I am visualizing great things happening in this 39th year of my life. And I am grateful to be spending this birthday at ISPA, with my spa industry friends and colleagues (including my husband whom I met at this conference 10 years ago), working – starting with an important 5 am call, which just means my birthday will last an extra long time.

And for inspiration, I am reminded of what some amazing people accomplished when they were 38:

  • Poet Robert Frost sold his farm and used the proceeds to move to England where he could devote himself primarily to writing, and that made all the difference.
  • Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong became the first person to set foot on the moon.

If this is what 38 looks like, I am thrilled with 38.
